Information and Visualization

The research focus in information and visualization is to be seen as a cross-sectional topic: here new formats are developed for scientific inquiry, for advising the world of politics, and for informing the general public. The location of this focus in our region is propitious, since Berlin and Brandenburg host a good number of scientific institutions conducting data-intensive research (incl. the German Research Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam (GFZ), and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)). These multi-dimensional data must be made available to the user in informative visual form, so as to make scientific findings accessible. This calls for applied research into innovative human/technology interfaces, interactive systems, products and services. Here, data from diverse domains of application need to be taken into consideration, for example from the Geo and environmental sphere or from cultural work.
